Advisory Section 702
Our advisory group will meet every morning for a brief check-in and again for a full period 2 days a week. During the morning sessions (which begin promptly at 8:10 AM) I will take attendance, make announcements and distribute home-notices to students. In our full period sessions we will engage in a variety of activities. This year, the 7th graders are going to focus much of their advisory time on self-exploration projects, following the same cycle schedule as their other classes. We will be developing the first of these projects, the creation of an autobiography, over the course of the first two cycles. We will be reading articles, short stories and mentor texts as we generate rich descriptions of our own and powerful expressions that ‘show’ who we are. Other cycle projects will include investigating and documenting our family trees, mastering interview techniques and conducting one in-depth interview at a StoryCorp booth (www.StoryCorps.net).

I.C.E. ADMISSIONS
WELCOME TO THE I.C.E. ADMISSIONS INFORMATION PAGE!Thank you for your interest in our intentionally small school! From this page, you can access information about the Admissions/Enrollment processes at I.C.E. For those seeking information regarding the 6G Admissions process for the 2011-2012 school-year, please check back in September 2010, as the information and materials available on this page will be updated over the summer.~ Please
note that the Admissions process for the 2010-2011 6th Grade class has now closed. Due to high enrollment in all grade levels, we do not
currently have any open seats. We have happily won our DOE Enrollment Appeal to reduce our student population from 500 to 450 in 2010-2011. Therefore, we do not anticipate opening any seats in any grade level even if a student moves away from our community. For recommendations about other excellent NYC schools, feel free to send an inquiry ~Use the Resources area of this page to:Download the 6Grade I.C.E. In 2009-2010, I.C.E. received nearly 500 ED applications, 240 students among these excellent candidates were selected for ICAT Interviews, and 60 families received Acceptance Letters in the Spring of 2010 to fill the 2010-2011 6th Grade seats. Please email ICEAdmissions@gmail.com for specific admissions inquiries. An I.C.E. Community Admissions Team (ICAT) member will respond as soon as is possible. Thank You again for your interest in I.C.E.PLEASE NOTE***If your child is seeking Admission/Enrollment in a grade other than 6th*** • Due to our high enrollment numbers, we do not anticipate accepting Applications for prospective students in any grade other than 6th for the 2011-2012 school-year. • If your child will be entering HS next year, please note that as a very popular Middle School choice, with a focused 6-12 grade curricular arc, we rarely have any HS seats available. As a result, we do NOT host High School Tours or Open Houses.• Directions for HS students and families interested in pursuing an unlikely open seat in the I.C.E. HS:Students MUST work with their current school guidance counselors to complete the DOE HS Placement Preference form through the mandated DOE application process If I.C.E. is not selected as 1st choice on this form, it is extremely unlikely that the system will make a match to I.C.E.Students MUST Interview with I.C.E. should the DOE make a match - interviews will be scheduled as information from the DOE is made available to us (usually in the Spring months) and once we have a better idea of our internal 2011-12 enrollment numbers. At the scheduled Interview, we ask families to supply the below items:A completed a I.C.E. HS Placement Application (available in the Resources section of this site in January 2011)A copy of the MOST recent report card at the time of the scheduled interviewA hand-written (not typed) original 3-5 page student essay explaining: 1) What the student is like inside and outside of school 2) Why they are leaving their current school, and 3) What they are looking for in a High School learning experience
